#shotoniphone Weekly Share

One of my favorite bloggers/Instagrammers/photographers posted on her blog today, about the photos she took with her iPhone this week.  (If you’re on Instagram, check her out! And also the #shotoniphone hashtag!) I don’t really use my phone much as a camera anymore, but I do have a few to share from this past week. (The first three were taken by Avery, on iPhone 7 – which is my phone – not hers, and edited in VSCOcam with the B2 and E1 filters).

We checked this Narwhal book out of the library this week. It’s so cute!

We are spending the weekend in the house, recovering from our colds, doing laundry and avoiding the icy roads. Happy weekend!

Halloween 2017

I got to see the kids for a few hours after school today, and we went to the Police Department and to our favorite Halloween House. We didn’t do much more than that because it’s freezing here (like usual) and we are all in various stages of sickness (mostly colds, thankfully).  Sometimes, I wish Halloween was in a month that was a little warmer.

Lauren wanted no part of our favorite Halloween House this year (normally it’s a pirate ship, but this year it was a bit scarier) but Avery and Hannah loved it all. Lauren wanted to be Elena of Avalor again this year, but the other two chose to be butterflies. You can’t really tell since we needed winter hats, boots, and coats.

Next year, I might just stick to indoor events, so the kids can wear their costumes the way they are meant to be worn.

We are expecting snow again (and some rain) so I guess I’m just grateful the sun finally came out so at least it looked sort of warm…ish. I told the kids next year, they can only wear the one-piece costumes that look like pajamas. They will be warm, won’t have any random pieces to lose, and will actually look like the character/thing they are trying to be.

Anyway, I’m off to do some more homework, type a few hundred words for NaNoWriMo and hopefully sleep off this cold. Happy Halloween!

Autumn in Northern Minnesota

Autumn in Northern Minnesota | Beth Hardinger Images

I first noticed the leaves starting to change way back in the beginning of August. We had been having some chilly days, considering August in Minnesota should be at least 85* and humid. Slowly but surely, the trees are all changing. After some storms, there are leaves all over the ground too.

Bees are still out – bumblebees, wasps, yellow jackets. All. Over. It makes for dangerous walks.

On Friday night, Gramma and Penny came to visit for a little bit. We took Penny on a walk down the trail near our house. She loved walking with Avery, but didn’t want Gramma out of sight for very long.

It’s almost time for another full moon. That means bright and sleepless nights. I can’t wait for the nest few weeks – cooler weather (I need to buy a sweater…) and less green. I’m just hoping the snow holds off til at least Thanksgiving…

What does fall look like where you live?

Baxter Color Run

I signed up for the Baxter Color Run a few weeks ago because someone I knew was going. This has been on my list for awhile, but since I’m not a runner, I figured I would never do it. This particular run had a walk option, so kids could participate, so I knew I was going to sign us up. All four of us got t-shirts (even though Hannah was swimming in hers) and had a blast! Lauren gave up after the first station and sat in the van with my mom (too much going on).

We will definitely be signing up again next year!

April Bonfire

We went to Gramma and Papa’s house a few weeks ago, and had a huge fire. The kids made hot dogs and s’mores, and Sadie the dog snatched a hot dog that fell in the dirt. She was pretty proud of herself.

Lauren was there too, but she spent the majority of the time on the play set. We’re going back in a few weeks for my birthday, which means another awesome bonfire and maybe s’mores instead of cake.

I’m going to try and bring this blog back. I’m not sure what I’ll post, but it’s spring and the flowers are almost blooming, so I know I’ll be out taking photos of all that soon.

Me and the kids – our lives have changed so much in the past two months, and will be changing for quite awhile. I want to do a better job at documenting these changes and even (gasp!) getting IN the picture every once in awhile.

Someone* mentioned to me today that they love reading my posts, even if it’s just about our day. So, this is for you!

*You know who you are!

Brainerd Minnesota Wedding {Jessica & Wade}

I was asked by my sister’s friend to photograph their wedding. They got married a few weeks ago, under a tent in a family member’s yard. The ceremony was short and sweet – just how they wanted it. Their two-year old daughter was right up there in all the action, and it was the cutest thing ever – she clung to her daddy the whole time.

We got a few shots at the property (the one below is the couple with their Pastor and his wife.)

And the wedding party.

We did family shots at the local Arboretum. It was an overcast day, with a forecast of rain and storms, but thankfully that never happened.

This one of the bride and groom is one of my favorites of the day, and totally unplanned.

Congratulations, Jessica and Wade! I look forward to meeting Baby D next month!
